Lifeguard Instructor

lgiObjective: The purpose of this course is to train instructor candidates to teach Lifeguard Training (including First Aid), CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Preventing Disease Transmission, Community Water Safety, and Basic Water Rescue. The training prepares instructor candidates by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials and methods, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive authorization to teach the above material for two (2) calendar years. Length: Approximately 21 hours Online Session ~2.5 hours and Classroom Session ~18.5 hours

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age of 17
  • Posses a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate or equivalent
  • Successfully complete the online Pre-course session including Orientation to the American Red Cross (redcross.org) and Orientation to the Lifeguarding Program, which includes a Pre-course Exam
  • Successfully perform all of the skills in the lifeguard instructor pre-course session. The skills in the pre-course session include swimming, lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer skills.
