Administering Emergency Oxygen

An advanced skills course for professional rescuers, including lifeguards, who want to improve their ability to provide care for victims of breathing emergencies. This course covers a variety of physical and mechanical tools for maintaining patient oxygen levels until more advanced medical personnel can take over.

2 year certification

Digital certificate available upon successful completion of course

Prerequisites: Current adult, child or infant CPR certification

Course length: 1 hour, 40 minutes (1 hour, 5 minutes when taught with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers)

Topics include:

  • Use of bag-valve-mask (BVM) rescuscitator
  • Use of manual and mechanical suctioning devices (optional)
  • Administering emergency oxygen
  • Oxygen safety procedures
  • Airway management including oral (OPA) and nasal (NPA) airways (optional)
